Robots That Keep Trading After the Laptop Closes.

A trading robot is only as dependable as the machine it runs on. With eTrader Code, that machine is not the trader's laptop or a server they rent. It is eTrader's cloud, on their account at your firm.

Ask a retail trader how their robot runs and the answer is often a small monthly bill. They pay for a remote server, log into it through a remote desktop, install a trading platform on it, copy the robot across and leave the window open. Then they hope nobody restarts the machine.

Each of those steps can fail on its own. A payment bounces, an update reboots the server, the connection drops at three in the morning. The robot stops, and the trader finds out when they next look at their balance.

The Problem Your Firm Never Sees

From the firm's side, a rented server is invisible. The trader's account is with you, but the thing placing their trades sits on hardware someone else runs, under a login you do not have. When it goes quiet, the account goes quiet with it.

Nobody sends you an alert that a client's server expired. You see a drop in activity, or you get a message from an unhappy trader who assumes the platform is at fault. Either way, the problem started somewhere you had no say over.

Where eTrader Code Robots Run

A robot written in eTrader Code runs in the cloud, on the trader's account at your firm. Once it is started, the trader's own computer plays no part in it. They can shut the lid, forget the charger at home or spend a week away from a screen, and the robot carries on.

eTrader is hosted in the cloud by SINGUARD and managed by your firm, built to scale across clustered servers as firms grow. Your firm runs nothing extra so that robots can trade. Neither does the trader.

In one line: the robot lives next to the account it trades, not on a machine in someone's spare room or a server bill on a credit card.

From a File to a Running Robot

Robots are written in Tide, eTrader's own trading language, inside eTrader Code at code.etraderweb.com or in the Mac app. The trader signs in with their eTrader ID, and their files stay on that ID until they choose to delete them.

Testing comes before anything touches real money. The trader connects their trading account at your firm, runs a backtest on that account's price history and gets an equity curve with every trade listed. If a rule opens far too many positions in a quiet market, that shows up in the list, not in a live statement.

When the robot is ready, the trader sets it up from the eTrader web terminal and it starts trading in the cloud.

Staying in Control From the Terminal

Robots are managed from a Files menu in the top bar of the eTrader web terminal, just left of the account button. It has two tabs. The Bots tab lists the trader's robot files and the robots they have already set up, with the configured ones at the top, so what is actually running is the first thing they see.

The same tab carries a Stop All Bots button. When the market moves hard or a trader simply wants everything off, it is one click, with no scrolling through a list to find each robot by name.

Managing robots is desktop work. The mobile web version of the terminal leaves the Files menu out on purpose, so nobody reconfigures a strategy by accident on a small screen.

What It Changes for Your Firm

Trading activity from automated clients stays on your platform around the clock, with fewer outside parts that can break it. A trader whose robot runs where their account is does not lose a week of trading to an expired server subscription.

Support gets simpler too. Your team never has to walk a client through setting up a remote machine, and never has to guess whether a quiet account is a platform issue or a server someone forgot to pay for.

There is no extra product to add. eTrader Code is included in the platform. For the wider picture, read What Is eTrader Code? or see how traders build their own chart tools in custom indicators on eTrader.

"Automating a strategy should not mean renting a second computer. The robot belongs beside the account it trades."

Key Takeaways

Frequently Asked Questions

What Happens to a Robot When the Trader Turns Off Their Computer?

Nothing changes for the robot. It runs in the cloud on the trader's account at your firm, so it keeps trading whether their laptop is open or shut.

Can a Trader Stop Their Robots Quickly?

Yes. In the eTrader web terminal, the Bots tab under Files has a Stop All Bots button that halts every robot the trader has running with one click.

Can Traders Test a Robot Before It Trades a Live Account?

Yes. After connecting their trading account at your firm, a trader can backtest the robot on that account's price history and review an equity curve with every trade listed before switching it on.
