Ask a Nairobi operator where their client records live and you often get a spreadsheet, a WhatsApp thread and a payment dashboard from a provider that was never designed for a trading business. That works for the first two hundred clients. It stops working at the first reconciliation dispute, and it stops working badly.
Who this page is for
Founders and operators of brokers and prop firms based in Nairobi, and East African groups that use the city as their commercial base. Kenya is one of the few markets on the continent with a purpose-built licensing route for online foreign exchange broking, which changes the conversation: firms here are more often building a properly permissioned domestic business than marketing in from offshore.
The regulatory backdrop in Kenya
The Capital Markets Authority, the CMA, is the regulator for capital markets activity in Kenya, including online foreign exchange broker licensing. The framework distinguishes between models that take the other side of client trades and models that do not, which is the same commercial fork explained in A book versus B book. Which category your firm falls into, what capital and reporting come with it and how client money must be held are matters for the CMA and your own counsel. This is description, not advice, and SINGUARD is not licensed anywhere.
If you are still comparing routes, broker licence costs compared and capital requirements for brokers give you the shape of the decision without pretending to price your specific case.
SINGUARD supplies software only. No Kenyan entity, no local office, no licence, no client money. Your firm holds the permission and the funds; we run the platform and the CRM.
What SINGUARD provides
The eTrader platform with its own market data feed, delivered on web and native mobile apps under your brand. The Broker CRM for clients, KYC state, deposits, withdrawals, spreads, markups, swaps, commissions and reporting, with a client portal your traders sign into. The Prop Firm CRM for evaluation rules, drawdown tracking, breach handling and payouts. Everything is fully managed by our team on our infrastructure, and a firm can be live in 24 hours once its own licensing and paperwork are complete.
Per-server configuration matters for a market like this. Instruments, markups, swap handling and risk tiers are set per firm, so a Nairobi broker offering a short instrument list in a single account currency does not inherit somebody else's defaults.
The prop side deserves its own note. An evaluation business is a rules engine with a payment queue attached, and the rules have to be evaluated against the same data the trader saw, not a nightly summary. Drawdown, daily loss, consistency and time in market are configured per programme, breaches are recorded with the trade that caused them, and the payout queue holds an approval step so no one pays out of a chat message. If you are still designing the programme, designing prop firm challenges is the place to start before you talk to any vendor.
Payments, mobile money and banking
Kenya settled the retail payment question years before most of the world: money moves by phone. For a trading firm that is good news for deposits and a harder problem for everything downstream, because your liquidity provider, your platform vendor and your auditor all live in the international banking system. Expect to run a domestic rail for client cash-in and a separate cross-border rail for settlement, with the fee layers described in SEPA versus SWIFT and the account structure argued in multi-currency accounts. Card acquiring stays awkward for the reasons in high risk merchant accounts.
The CRM's job is the record: which rail, which reference, which rate, which fee, who approved the withdrawal and when. Mixed rails are where reconciliation goes wrong, and a per-client ledger is the only thing that makes a dispute a five-minute conversation.
Language, hours and structure
Nairobi works in English and Swahili, and support in both converts better than support in one. Kenya sits at UTC+3, so the London open lands late morning and the New York session runs into your evening, which suits a desk that wants a normal working day and an evening support shift rather than an overnight rota.
Firms here tend to keep the licensed entity lean, run acquisition through communities, education and affiliates, and buy technology rather than staff a platform team. Groups comparing African markets usually also read our pages on Lagos and Cairo, and every city we cover is on the locations index.
Who is behind the software
Alex Onta built the eTrader platform, with Roman Onta on design, and Alex leads it. The Broker CRM, the Prop Firm CRM, Scalegram and CopySignals were built by Alex Onta and Roman Onta together, and the two of them handle compliance, payments and corporate structuring. Calls are with them.

Where SINGUARD is based, and where we meet firms in Nairobi
All of the software, the contracts and the policies come from SGHK Softwares Limited in Hong Kong, the holding company that builds and licenses eTrader and both CRMs. The team works out of Dubai, where both Executive Directors, Alex Onta and Roman Onta, live for most of the year, and our licensed UAE entity is SINGUARD GLOBAL FZC in Ajman Free Zone. We hold no office or licence in Kenya, and none is needed: the platform is delivered and managed from our own clustered servers, so a firm in Nairobi runs exactly what a firm anywhere else runs, and your licence, your client money and your compliance obligations stay entirely with your own entity.
Being in Dubai keeps the team on the industry circuit and within easy reach of Nairobi for calls and meetings, in a time zone that overlaps most of the trading world.
In person, the place to find us is the industry circuit. The team attends Forex Expo Dubai and the other major shows, wearing the SINGUARD and eTrader shirts, and you can walk up without an appointment, ask for a live demo of the terminal and both CRMs, and talk to the Executive Directors directly in English, Italian, Romanian or Russian. See where to find us at the expo.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does SINGUARD have an office in Nairobi?
No. SINGUARD has no office, entity, staff or licence in Kenya. We are a software company serving firms that operate in Nairobi, and the team travels to industry events.
Who regulates online forex brokers in Kenya?
The Capital Markets Authority, the CMA, licenses online foreign exchange broker activity in Kenya. Which category of permission applies to your model is a question for the CMA and your own advisers.
Can a Nairobi firm accept mobile money deposits?
That is between your firm and your payment providers. SINGUARD moves no money. The CRM records the deposit, the rail it arrived on, the rate applied and every payout against that client.
How soon can a broker in Nairobi be trading?
The platform and CRM can be live within 24 hours once your own licensing and paperwork are in place. Instruments, markups, branding and payment connections are set up with you during that window.
