Multiple Take-Profit Levels: Which Platforms Actually Support Them.

Scaling out of a position at more than one price sounds simple until you check what your platform actually lets you set on one order.

By September 19, 2026 8 min read

A trader who wants to bank profit at three different prices on one position assumes every trading platform lets them do that. Most do not. eTrader supports up to four take-profit levels on a single position, and cTrader supports up to five through its own chart trading tools. Several other platforms sold to brokers and prop firms still tie one position to one take-profit price, and traders scale out by opening more than one position instead.

We build eTrader, so we say plainly where it sits: four levels is behind cTrader's five, and there is no way around that today. What follows is only what each vendor publishes about its own take-profit and partial-close tools, checked against their own documentation.

How a take-profit ladder actually works

Two different things get called "multiple take profits." The first is a genuine ladder on one position: the trader sets three or four exit prices on the same trade, and the platform closes a slice of the position as each price is touched, with one stop loss covering what remains. The second is opening several smaller positions on the same symbol and giving each its own single take-profit price, which achieves a similar result manually but needs more clicks, more margin bookkeeping and, on some platforms, an account mode that allows more than one position per symbol at once.

Only a handful of platforms do the first natively. The rest are built around the second.

eTrader: four levels, each one draggable

eTrader lets a trader ladder up to four take-profit levels on a single position, each one a labeled line on the chart that can be dragged to a new price on its own. A pending order dragged across the market price converts automatically between limit and stop, and any level can be edited with a tap or a long press on the phone apps. The stop loss stays on the remaining size as each level fills. We cover the mechanics in more depth in our guide to eTrader's take-profit ladders and in the wider chart trading guide.

cTrader: five levels through chart trading

Spotware's own chart trading documentation describes adding a take-profit control on the chart, then dragging it again to add another level, with support for up to five take-profit levels on one position. The vendor calls this "server-side scaling out," meaning the exchange or broker server holds the ladder rather than a script on the trader's own computer. That is the highest number of native levels on one position among the platforms in this comparison.

MetaTrader, DXtrade, TradeLocker and Match-Trader: one price, more positions

MetaTrader 5's own help documentation describes a take-profit order as closing "the entire position" once the price is reached, with the same wording used for stop loss. Neither MetaTrader 4 nor MetaTrader 5 lets a trader attach more than one take-profit price to a single position. A trader who wants three exit points on MetaTrader opens three smaller positions, in hedging mode if the broker's account type allows more than one position per symbol, and sets a different take-profit price on each. It works, and it is exactly what "one order, one target" traders on MetaTrader have done for years, but it is manual and it uses more margin than a single laddered position of the same total size.

Devexperts is the most direct about this. DXtrade's own traders' FAQ states plainly that the platform "supports only the regular Stop Loss/Take Profit protection orders," and lists multiple take-profit levels alongside breakeven and trailing stop as features that are "not currently available." That is DXtrade's own documentation, not a guess on our part, and it is the clearest published statement in this comparison either way.

TradeLocker's help guides describe setting a stop loss and take profit as a single SL&TP action from the chart: click the plus icon by the price bar, choose SL or TP, drag the line, confirm. The guides do not describe a way to add a second take-profit price to the same position from that tool. Match-Trader's documentation reads the same way: a Take Profit button in the order panel sets one price, editable afterward by dragging it on the chart. Both platforms support closing part of a position by hand, TradeLocker through its position panel and Match-Trader through a dedicated partial-close action in its trading API, so a trader can still scale out. It just takes a manual close at each price rather than a ladder the server manages on its own.

TradingView is a different case entirely

TradingView is a charting platform and community, not somewhere a firm runs its trading book. Its Pine Script language lets a strategy call its exit logic more than once, for example two strategy.exit() calls at different price targets, and traders publish scripts built this way in the public library. That is a coding technique for backtesting and for platforms TradingView connects to through its broker integrations. It is not the same as a discretionary trader dragging a second take-profit line on a live chart, and TradingView's own documentation frames it as a strategy scripting feature rather than a manual order tool.

What to check before you build a strategy around a ladder

If a ladder exit is part of how you or your firm's clients trade, three questions matter more than the headline number of levels. First, does the platform hold the ladder on its own server, so a dropped connection does not cancel it, or does it rely on a script running on a computer that has to stay on. Second, does partial closing at each level use one stop loss for the whole position or does each manual position need its own, which changes how much margin the whole ladder ties up. Third, can clients see and adjust every level from the phone app rather than a desktop terminal alone, since most retail flow now happens on a phone.

"Four take-profit levels was the right number for the traders we built eTrader for. Firms whose clients want a fifth should look at what cTrader publishes and judge for themselves."

Key Takeaways

Frequently Asked Questions

How many take-profit levels does eTrader support?

Up to four on a single position, each one a labeled line on the chart that can be dragged to a new price on its own, on web, Mac, iPhone and Android.

Does MetaTrader let me set more than one take profit on a position?

No. MetaTrader 5's own documentation describes a take-profit order as closing the entire position once its price is reached, and the same applies to MetaTrader 4. Traders who want several exit prices open more than one position and set a different take profit on each.

Does cTrader really support five take-profit levels?

Yes, according to Spotware's own chart trading documentation, which describes adding a take-profit control on the chart and dragging it again to set further levels, with support for up to five in total on one position.

What if my current platform only allows one take-profit price?

Open separate positions of a smaller size, each with its own take-profit price, or close part of the position manually as each target is reached. DXtrade, TradeLocker and Match-Trader all support partial closing even though none of them lists a multiple take-profit ladder on one position in its own documentation.

Can eTrader's CRM run alongside a platform with different take-profit rules?

Yes. SGHK's Broker CRM and Prop Firm CRM connect to MetaTrader, cTrader, DXtrade, Match-Trader and TradeLocker as well as eTrader, so a firm can offer more than one execution style without running more than one CRM. Book a demo to see eTrader's take-profit ladder on a live chart.
