MAM and PAMM: Plugins vs Native Money Managers.

Brokeree Solutions sells MAM, PAMM and Social Trading plugins for MetaTrader and cTrader servers. eTrader builds MAM and PAMM into the platform itself.

MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5 and cTrader do not come with money manager accounts built in. A broker running any of them that wants to offer MAM or PAMM to its clients has to add that functionality on top, which is why a market exists for vendors that sell exactly this as add-on infrastructure. Brokeree Solutions is one of the established names in that market. eTrader takes the other approach: MAM and PAMM are part of the platform itself, switched on from eTrader Business rather than installed as a separate product.

What a plugin vendor like Brokeree actually sells

Brokeree Solutions is a third-party technology vendor, not MetaQuotes or Spotware, that sells PAMM, MAM and Social Trading plugins as add-on infrastructure for MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5 and cTrader servers. Its Social Trading product, by its own description, supports cross-server signal sharing, provider and follower grouping, subscription and risk management, and fee calculation. A broker installs and configures this alongside its existing MetaTrader or cTrader server, connecting it to the platform's own account structure so managers and investors can use money manager features that platform does not otherwise offer.

This is a completely normal way to run a brokerage, and it is why plugin vendors like Brokeree exist at all: MetaTrader and cTrader are strong on execution and trader-facing tools but leave money manager functionality to specialists. The cost is a second vendor relationship: a separate contract, a separate integration to test and maintain, and a separate support line if something in the MAM or PAMM flow does not match what the core platform is doing.

eTrader MAM and PAMM, native to the platform

eTrader's MAM and PAMM are part of the platform itself, turned on from eTrader Business rather than bolted on as a separate product. Both run on the same accounts and in the same terminals traders already use, with no third-party plugin or bridge in between.

In MAM, investors attach their accounts to a manager after accepting terms and a power of attorney. A manager's single order splits across every attached investor by equity, balance, multiplier or percent, and fills once at one price. Stop loss and take profit sit on the whole trade, so every investor closes together, and a partial close closes the same share for everyone. An investor below the minimum lot for a given split is simply left out of that trade, with the reason shown. The firm can also set a drawdown level at which an investor is automatically detached.

In PAMM, the manager trades a single pool account, and investors hold units in it rather than their own individual positions. Invest and redeem requests wait for the next dealing day, which can be daily, weekly or monthly, and run at one price per unit. Terms on a PAMM pool can include a minimum investment, a lock-up period, and a drawdown level at which the pool pauses. Both structures support a performance fee on profit above a high-water mark that moves with deposits and withdrawals, a yearly management fee for days elapsed, and subscription or redemption fees, with any change applying from the next fee period. Any account, whether MAM, PAMM or ordinary, can issue a read-only investor password from Change Password.

The real trade-off

Neither model is wrong. A broker already running MetaTrader or cTrader, with clients used to those terminals, gains money manager functionality without switching platforms by adding a plugin like Brokeree's. The price is a second vendor to manage: updates on the platform side and the plugin side have to stay compatible, support questions can bounce between two companies, and the broker is depending on that plugin relationship staying healthy over time.

A firm on eTrader gets MAM and PAMM as part of the same platform its traders and dealing desk already run on, with no separate plugin to install, patch or reconcile against a platform update. The trade-off runs the other way: a firm cannot swap in a different MAM or PAMM vendor later without leaving eTrader, since the feature is not a modular add-on from an outside company. For a new firm choosing a platform, or an established one deciding whether to keep patching a plugin relationship, that is the actual question worth weighing, alongside our wider look at PAMM and MAM accounts and MAM and PAMM software compared. Firms can also book a call to see eTrader's native MAM and PAMM running on a demo.

"A money manager plugin has to keep working every time the underlying platform updates. Native MAM and PAMM means there is only one thing to keep working."

Key Takeaways

Frequently Asked Questions

Does MetaTrader include MAM or PAMM by default?

No. A broker running MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5 that wants MAM or PAMM adds it through a third-party plugin, such as those sold by vendors like Brokeree Solutions.

What does Brokeree Solutions actually sell?

PAMM, MAM and Social Trading plugins that add money manager and copy trading functionality to MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5 and cTrader servers, connected to the broker's existing platform install.

How is eTrader's MAM and PAMM switched on?

It is turned on from eTrader Business, native to the platform on the same accounts and terminals, with no separate plugin to install.

What happens to an investor below the minimum lot in eTrader MAM?

They are left out of that specific trade, and eTrader shows the reason, while the rest of the attached investors still receive their share of the manager's order.

Can a PAMM investor withdraw at any time?

Redemption requests wait for the pool's next dealing day, which can be daily, weekly or monthly, and run at one price per unit, and terms may also include a lock-up period.
